No Ordinary Lady… No Ordinary Vision… No Ordinary Act… Lady Sue Hennebury |
In May of 2011 Lady Sue Hennebury of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, made a not so ordinary decision. As she was readying to complete her career as a Halifax Regional School’s Librarian, she shared with colleagues the ‘notion’ instead of focusing on her career milestone, how about we celebrate the beginning of an opportunity for someone else.
Ever the modest one, her ‘instead’ notion was that any interested parties might make a donation to EveryChildCounts…EveryStudentMatters, a Child Help Organization, so another might begin, or if already fortunate, continue their educational journey. How graciously giving, how non-self serving is it, how transparent can a Good heart become, such that a career with its attenuating years, countless caring efforts offered, and notable accomplishments attained be transitioned to celebrating someone else’s journey just begun.
Ms. Hennebury’s colleagues at Ellenvale and Mount Edward Schools in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia granted her heartwish, and on May 24, 2011 EveryChildCounts…
EveryStudentMatters was presented with $227 in honour of this no ordinary lady. Lady Sue we offer bundles and bundles of thanks and appreciation to you and your colleagues for this notable act of kindness. These funds will be used entirely to support a young 8 year old in Haiti to go to school from September 2011 to June 2012. This student will be firmly introduced to you and will be informed of your initiative to offer her this opportunity of an educational stepping stone.
Indeed no ordinary lady…and an extraordinary gift.
Lady Sue Hennebury, we salute your kindness.

Ellenvale Mount Edward

A heart that gives to a child in need is surely a heart that smiles in a sacred way. To offer a beautiful reason why I say this, I'd like you to meet Tom LeBlanc of Sackville, Nova Scotia.
Like many of us Tom had been putting his coin aside for some time and when it should be convenient then one day he would just take all his rolled coin to some bank perhaps in exchange for more convenient 'bills'. And then Sir Tom went on line to www.everychildcounts.ca and read about EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. And that's where a caring heart decided to take a little 'detour' and make a most generous contribution to ECC...ESM. Tom donated all of his rolled coin along with a container of extra coin as well. It was nearly enough to support a child in Haiti for an entire year. How great is that!!!! Can't thank you enough Mr. LeBlanc. May the Blessings you know be most abundant. Your spirit of giving to a child in need inspires me to work harder to help more children. Thank you for knocking on our door. Thank you for touching our hearts. Thank you for helping us to do more for children in need. Sir Tom we salute you!!!!!

For EveryChildCounts there is the blessing of many unforgettable moments.
Lady Shirley Gale...made one of them happen with her most generous donation to ECC...ESM. This means more children will 'taste' an educational opportunity thanks to her caring and giving manner. Lady Shirley, you are helpful, you are inspiring, you are part of a TEAM who reaches out to others and not only say we care, but are doers in this ministry of the heart. Bravo!!!
February 04, 2011
Lady Madonna Cooze of Sackville, NS has the habit, as many of us do, of putting aside small change and of course over time it generated into this little 'cache' of 'moolar'(in the tens of dollars). What was really neat this time was offering it to help EveryChildCounts in its mission of ministry to help children in need. Thank you Madonna; Thank you Gordon, for as Madonna said, some of the coins were 'lifted' from your pockets as well. You both are part of the TEAM of helpers. Thank you, indeed!!!
February 02, 2011
Today was witness to a beautiful surprise for EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters when Mothers' Union Members at St. Francis By The Lakes Church in Sackville, Nova Scotia made a donation of $155 to this organization dedicated to helping children in need. ECC...ESM offers a 'humongous' thank you to Elaine Bishop, Joan Helpard, Shirley Keeler, Elaine Laurie, Dawn Snyder, Bev Scammell, Rose Smith, Sarah Smith, Mona Harrod and Ann Gray. What is equally interesting about this noted act of support is while the group members had for several years adopted the practice of exchanging gifts to each other at Christmas time, this year they collectively decided to pool these funds and make a contribution to EveryChild...EveryStudent. We know there can be much blessing in giving. This Mothers' Union group are truly witness to this. Thank you, Thank you most sincerely!!!!

This Christmas I kindly asked a number of Family Members with whom we traditionally share Christmas gifts to consider offering to EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters instead of to me directly. I wish to say a big, big thank you to several who did. Perhaps next year more may consider this. Hoping. It is with delight I salute

Today at Church could have been a typical Sunday Worship Day, but that was not to be for EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. Two Bezanson Families of Nova Scotiamade a most gracious donation to this NPO (Not For Profit Organization). How do you offer adequate thanks when people overwhelm you with their big hearts to help more children in need? A big salute to Frank and Barbara Bezanson, and to Vic and Judy Bezanson of Sackville, Nova Scotia. Their legacy of doing great things is virtually legendary. Ask anyone at the Cobequid Health Centre in Sackville, or ask anyone at St. Francis By The Lakes Church in Sackville. Yes, we truly welcome the Bezanzon Families as the latest sponsors of EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. Congrats!!!
November 17, 2010

We are delighted to welcome Christine Bragg as a now sponsoring member of EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. Lady Christine is a veteran at caring for children in developing countries. We are so, so pleased to have you support ECC...ESM as well. Truly we are on the same page, same team, similar mission of offering to others in need. You have moved beyond dreaming or saying and now doing. Let me repeat D-O-I-N-G!!!!! (Deciding Other's Interest Needs Generosity). Kudos to Ms. Bragg!!!

Getting ready to pour a lot of energies into ECC...ESM. Will keep everyone posted!
July 2010
In July EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters had the distinct pleasure of submitting a cheque of $700 Canadian to HeartBeat Ministries to accommodate two new students at a school they operate in Bura, Kenya (East Africa). It is hoped by September we may know the names of these two students we are assisting there and that we can realize our goal of transparency, where every penny donated and thus every penny offered in sponsorship will be used to assist a child in need. It is with modest satisfaction and much delight that ALL of us who are members of ECC...ESM are collectively making a sincere effort to make a difference in the life of a child. As a group we are stronger; as a group we achieve more. Many thanks go to many persons. Blessings to all of us who dare to offer.
More and more people are helping EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters by donating their refundable recycles. Some call up and say we have another bag of recycles ready for you to pick up and I go get them. Some have dropped off their recycles at 12 Nappan Dr., here in Sackville. In July the following folks have made recycle donations to ECC...ESM and our many thanks to them. If you wish to be in touch please phone 902-864-5079 or CP 902-229-3111. Wishing everyone a super pleasant and safe summer.

Sinclair and Shirley Bannerman have chosen to remember Sinclair's Dad, Charles Sinclair Bannerman, by making a most inspiring donation in honour of his memory to EveryChildCounts...EveryStudent Matters. ECC...ESM offers a most sincere thank you to the Bannerman Family for this sacred act. Sir Charles Sinclair Bannerman we acknowledge you in memory.

June 08, 2010
In the early 70's I began my career as an educator with HRSB at Ellenvale School in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and was simply blessed to have the privilege to work with so many wonderful students. In 1987 I made my first foray into West Africa and remember preparing an otherwise 'shed' into a would be school - a first for that particular Gambian village. Today EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters received a cheque of $221.94 to help continue assisting students to access educational opportunities. No wonder I love this school so much, even with a completely new generation of young people than when I first started, there are hearts that still care and choose to help make a difference. Thank You! Thank You! Students and Staff at Ellenvale. Maybe I could even dream that a current student/staff or former student/staff may at some point become one of the Board of Directors of ECC...ESM. It seems it never hurts to dream when it includes Ellenvale.
June 04, 2010
As nearly twenty members of St. Francis By The Lakes Friday Morning Bible Group gathered on June 04 to say Thank You for a joyous year, we enjoyed a breakfast together and hoped all would be well to start our program again in September. Amidst all the great fellowship ECC...ESM was in for an additional surprise. The group had decided to make a donation of $65 to this Helping Children Non Profit Organization. The Good Lord has His Ways of helping more dreams come true. Thank You, Thank You St. Francis.
June 03, 2010
EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters offers a most sincere thank you to Guy & Maisie Herritt who has blessed this organization with their multiple givings. Their continuous giving helps ECC...ESM to dream with more students in need. The beauty of a dream does not necessarily exceed the graciousness of a giving heart. Kudos to you G & M.
May 30, 2010

C-O-N-G-R-A-T-S to Mrs. Abriel's 5/6 Class, Crichton Park, Dartmouth, NS!!!! EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters (www.everychildcounts.ca) wishes to salute the amazing energy, creativity, presentation and performance of a Fashion Show held at their school tonight - Monday, May 17. What a delight to be so entertained by amazingly talented Grade 5/6 students. Their efforts were particularly motivated to help others - to raise funds and offer them to organizations currently helping children in need. NPO EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters is to be the recipient of some of the proceeds from this performance to help continue or begin new projects of helping other children/students. I encourage us as adults to learn to share more and more our world with our young people. The possibilities are limitless and such collaboration may well be a most welcomed 'promise' of the 21st century. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mrs. Abriel's 5/6 Class for being so on the cutting edge of not waiting to be be adults to do marvellous things NOW. Again ECC...ESM says Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!
May 07, 2010
A big welcome to Lady Joan Helpard of St. Francis By The Lakes Church on becoming a sponsoring member of EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. As well she made an additional monetary donation to ECC...ESM and we so graciously say thank you. An act of giving by Lady Joan becomes an opportunity of receiving by a child in need. You have a perfect last name, You Helper You!!!!!
May 06, 2010
Educator Sara Henneberry of HRSB is now a member of ECC...ESM, and guess how it happened. April 27, 2010
This week I had the pleasure of dining with the Abriels of Dartmouth, NS. What a delight. Not only are they charming as educational colleagues, but as parents they are offering their children, Ethan and Calen, opportunity after opportunity to learn about children in need as well as learning how children and youth who are empowered with opportunity can make such a difference in the lives of other children. I don't wish to spill the beans or steal her thunder, but I wish for Lady Stephanie to tell us about amazing occasions she has orchestrated within the classroom - Pay It Forward, Complaint Free World, Entrepreneurial Venture Program. And an almost incredible story of a particular youth helping other children - you gotta hear about Avery Dakin-Clarke. Stay tuned for these amazing human initiatives of immense caring proportions. YES!!! Learn about it on ECC...ESM websuite!! (Yah, I agree I said websuite, because ECC.ESM is no ordinary website...oh dear, what shall I do with my sense of humour)
April 23, 2010

Happy Earth Day Everyone from EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters. This the 40th anniversary of celebrating the First Earth Day. Just imagine if out of sheer courage we were to designate one day a month as Earth Day. Perhaps someone who's only 12, 13 or 15 today may be tomorrow's visionary to further advance EarthCare. Today, I had the privilege of working with several young, beautiful minds at LT as we did research on Earth Day and were delighted to discover that Nova Scotia had a number of events we could particpate in to be truly involved in Earth Day. Good on You Nova Scotia.
And today I am delighted to say I met a young gentleman, Alex Sala, who is celebrating his birthday on Earth Day. Two beautiful things happening on the same day. Happy Birthday Alex.
April 14, 2010

For perhaps the last three years or so I have had the privilege to meet most Tuesdays at ASCC (All Saints Cathedral Church), Halifax, NS with five wonderful people who are gracious of the heart. They allow me to arrive late some times, to be busy and not make it at times, to treat me with tea and munchies, and to discuss matters Spiritual, perhaps among other topics. I totally salute them upon becoming members of ECC...ESM. I gladly extend my gratitude and appreciation to Rev. Dr. Davena Davis, Jean MacDonald, Karen Parker, Marion Cronin and Marjorie Austin. Another good evidence The Good Lord will enlist many hands and hearts to help children in need.

Today I had the delightful occasion of meeting John and Bev Chappelle. For the past 13 years, I repeat, 13 years, they have been fundraising here in Atlantic Canada to help HATS-Haiti, an organization dedicated to the health and educational wellbeing of hundreds of Haitian children. You can visit their website www.educationhaiti.org and learn all sorts of beautiful things about their inspiring efforts to make a difference in the lives of children in Haiti. I too through NPO EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters have been helping HATS-Haiti since September 2009. Both our efforts and our hearts have a cause in common and I encourage you to go to their website and perhaps e-mail them your acknowledgement.

Wow, during the past few days the World has witnessed such utter devastation, destruction and tragedy in Haiti. Many, many hearts are moved to action by this. EveryChildCounts...EveryStudentMatters has gone to a number of schools and made this offer that if a school were to collect pennies, nickels, etc., to Help Haiti< ECC...ESM would match it up to $100. Already, since September 2009, ECC...ESM has been supporting a school and orphanage in Les Deschappelles in Haiti (HATS) and would like for students here in Nova Scotia to help more students in Haiti in such unbelievable circumstances. Here's to hoping our little matching challenge will encourage caring hearts to assist Haitian students in such, such, such need.

I wish to say a most sincere thank you to ALL who have helped EveryChildCounts by their encouragement, their becoming a member of ECC, by donating funds and/or by offering their energies to help this organization forward. I am excitedly looking forward to continuing my efforts into the New Year and there are rather exciting things on the horizon I wish to share with everyone. Blessings to all. Rollie

This weekend I met with Father Trevor Nathasingh who runs an orphanage in Trinidad, the Carribean. He is such an inspiring humanitarian. I am hoping to start raising funds this week to assist his admirable and noble mission to help children. Every Child Counts on Someone. I wish to be a small part of that someone.
